Emmy is FIVE!

Emmy,

Happy birthday my love! You are five!

It’s another pandemic birthday for you! We celebrated you at home on your birthday and then on Saturday, we took snacks and treats on the road to visit all of your favorite people.

The travelling treat party was a great time and allowed us to see everyone without mixing too many people in our home. You were able to celebrate with 1 sibling, 2 parents, 2 uncles, 3 aunts, 4 grandparents and 6 cousins — it took us all day to get around to everyone’s home but it was a testimony to how blessed we truly are to be able to see so many people we love in a single day.

You are such a sparkle in our lives. You are giggly and goofy with the biggest infectious grin.

Yoda is a big part of your life and thus, a big part of ours. You first spotted him in a holiday toy catalog over a year ago, commenting that he was “oh so cute” but nothing came of it. Seeing him here and there in ads over the course of a year was met with similar comments and requests for one of your own. In the summer, I found a little pattern and after a couple of nights crocheting, I presented you with this…

He’s truly become a beloved companion — accompanying you camping, in the hospital and even in your school backpack.

Slowly your collection expanded and by this past Christmas, it had exploded.

You are becoming a little artist and have shifted your illustration expertise from smiley faces to Yodas.

You are doing well in school. You finished up your first year of preschool earning the prestigious “Phenomenal Friend” award back in May. And Yoda made it into your 2nd year of preschool photo in September.

You like school and have made a few friends whom you like to crawl around with playing “Kitty”. You are excited for Kindergarten next year. Your entire schooling as been during the pandemic and you have yet to have a school day where you did not wear a mask.

You missed the trike-a-thon when you were in the hospital but you were able to participate in the Christmas songfest. You rocked it! You even sang the songs for the other classes. 😉

You were admitted to Children’s hospital twice this year — once in August for an infection and once in the ICU in October for breathing troubles. You enjoyed the hospital toys and exclusive time with Mommy.

Last week, you came to me with a design idea. I helped with the hot glue and you built this little IV pole for your dolls. It was a little heartbreaking for me — especially when you added the little oxygen mask — but I think the play is helping you sort things out.

We’ve been camping and spending most of our time together in our little 4-pack. Some days you really want to go somewhere but most days, you are content building little playscapes, cutting out supplies for Yoda, dancing whenever music comes on in a show and logging some time on your kindle. My personal favorite is all the snuggles you give me.

You are never too shy to say I love you. You say it every day on repeat. Some days you even sing it! I love you my little Emmy Eve. I love you so much. It is a joy and blessing to be your Momma.

love,

Mommy
